The Washington Animal Rescue League was established in 1914. Several years later the League built D.C.'s first animal shelter. In 2006 the League completed a renovation that features a state-of-the-art cat and dog adoption center and a full-service medical center. Designed entirely from the animals' point of view, the facility supports the physical, mental, and social well-being of its resident animals. Visit the League at 71 Oglethorpe Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20011, www.warl.org
